The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), es-tablished in 1989 by India's Ministry of Education, offers flexible learning opportunities to diverse learners, in-cluding school dropouts and working professionals. Originally a CBSE project from 1979, it was rebranded from the National Open School in 2002. NIOS conducts exams twice a year and provides pre-degree certifica-tions through open learning programs. It plays a crucial role in providing alternative education, ensuring inclu-sivity and flexibility for those unable to attend regular schools, and offers various courses, vocational programs, and life enrichment initiatives.
